About The Black LGBT Community Awards PDF Print E-mail
The Black LGBT Community Awards 2008 are being organised by BGMAG. The Black Gay Men’s Advisory Group is an independent group of black gay and bisexual men of African and African/Caribbean parentage working for and on behalf of black men who have sex with men.

As black gay men we span various communities who share many similarities and experiences and are committed to the celebration and development of black gay cultures in the UK. We work to challenge prejudice, ignorance and hatred between and within communities. We believe that both black people and gay people have a great deal to learn from each other and that together, united we can challenge inequalities in our society and beyond.

Lies, denial, and blame have and continue to cause harm to all our communities and there is much work still to be done, we seek to work in partnership with others who share our aims to promote equality and offer continuous challenge to those that seek to divide our communities.

For too long, we have heard the lies, the myths the stereotypes and stayed silent. We have heard and experienced our loved ones ignored, blamed and silenced. We can stay silent no more.

BGMAG aims to:

* Empower Black gay men to play a full part in our society
* Challenge homophobia and racisms as they impact on the lives of Black gay men
* Improve the delivery of services for Black gay men
* Develop a sense of community among Black gay men
